The MAHA Festival will have its 2nd birthday on July 24th, but they’re throwing themselves a few pre-parties first: the 60 Days to MAHA and 30 Days to MAHA Showcases! These free show feature bands competing for a spot on the MAHA bill.

The showcases are filled with bands that want to play MAHA, and the band at each showcase with the most fan votes will get the chance. If you want to be there to see them play, you have two options: buy tickets for the show, or win any of the 12 TICKETS we’ll be giving away this summer.

  CONTEST

Let’s start by giving away two tickets, here’s how to enter:

1. Check out the video and look at the list of bands
2. Comment below: “Who are you most excited to see and why?”*
3. Make sure you are registered on Omaha.net before you comment (otherwise how will we email you back to tell you you’ve won? Duh!)

Contest ends Friday June 4th at 11 pm

*note: No reason is too silly for the why. For example, “I’m most excited to see Spoon because it rhymes with fork” qualifies. Yup.

A random sampling of fans from the 60 Days to MAHA Showcase shows locals The Faint taking an early lead in terms of fan interest, with everyone agreeing that they are excited to see an expansion of Omaha’s music scene. The 60 Days showcase featured:

  • Betsy Wells
  • Dim Light
  • Flight Metaphor
  • Noah’s Ark Was A Spaceship

July 24th’s MAHA Festival will have both a Main Stage and a Local Stage.

MAHA Festival Main Stage Lineup

  • Spoon (headliners)
  • The Faint
  • Superchunk
  • Old 97’s
  • Ben Kweller
  • It’s True

MAHA Festival Local Stage Lineup

  • Satchel Grande
  • The Mynabirds
  • ….and more

This is great, I’m very excited to see the Faint. Where better to see them than in their hometown?

Seeing the Faint in an outdoor venue will be interesting. I can’t wait to see them again.

The Faint are once again taking the lead. Remember, you need to be registered if you want the free tickets! We won’t SPAM you, but we will need to email you to tell you you’ve won.

Aren’t all those well established local bands? How about Voodoo Method playing in some capacity? Although VM has been together for over 2 years, they have been flying under the Radar, until making their presence felt this summer.

I am most excited to see Its True! because their live show is just so captivating. Also, seeing The Faint outside would be a really fun experience.

@Jeff — Not familiar with Voodoo Method, give us a link so we can check them out. That’s why MAHA is so cool, great mixture of national and local acts.

@Sophie — We got ya! Next step: add a picture so we can see your beautiful face!

Spoon has had my heart since “I Turn My Camera On.” I’m just ridiculously excited in general that Omaha is having such an amazing outdoor festival - I can only wish that it was sooner!

I’m looking forward to Superchunk and (as always) The Faint! I’ve also grown to love my new local (and maybe personal) favorite, Its True. Stellar stellar show every time they perform.

This is a great idea! Thanks.

I have always wanted to see Spoon live, they are one of my favorite bands, so I am hoping they are great in concert.

I don’t know anything about Superchunk, but I have heart great things, but I am also looking forward to seeing It’s True play on the main stage. I hope it provides them greater exposure, so that is also who I want to see.

Spoon and It’s True are my votes.

I am most excited to see Ben Kweller. He is an all-around great guy and musician and he puts a lot of effort into making each show he plays his absolute best.

I’m most excited to see Superchunk! They are one of the seminal indie-rock bands, and I never thought I’d get the chance. When Cursive sings about “Chapel Hill around the early 90s” THIS is who they are talking about!

Can’t wait to hear Ben Kweller, because he’s one of the ‘Ben’ musicians my son has introduced me to. There’s Ben Kweller, Ben Folds, and Ben P. Oh, wait, that’s the guy he shares his apartment with…

Looking forward to seeing all the bands, particularly Spoon and Superchunk since I have not seen them yet. Also, curious to see how the Faint can pull it off both outdoors and during the daylight hours.

I’m so excited to see Spoon. I always find out after their shows at the last minute or couldn’t find tickets. Also I’m so pumped up to hear the Faint play.

@Michelle Z If you’re subtly referencing the 2003 Bens album, the last Ben you are searching for is Ben Lee. And for the record, this comment thread has no love for Ben Harper!

Hard to pick a “most-excited-to-see” from such a solid lineup… but I’ll go with Ben Kweller because he always puts on a great show and last time he was in town a hospital visit kept me away.

I can’t wait to see the Old 97’s! I’ve been a fan since I was 15 when I heard their song “Weightless” in the Joy Ride movie. I looked up the lyrics forever before I found out whose song it was. I still listen to it all the time! So excited to see them LIVE.

though, i am excited to see spoon, the faint, the mynabirds, aaaaand satchel grande, because, well… why not? theyre all so different! its nice to have that diversity in one day at one location… now ive just got to figure out how to get there… :D

P.S. what happened to LB?

Congrats to Michelle Buckanaga, you’ve won two tickets to the MAHA Festival! (and no, we did not just select the last commenter, that’d be lazy, even for us. We used a random number from the good people at Random.org)

The final tally for band people are most exited to see (some people were excited for more than one):

Spoon - 12
The Faint - 10
Ben Kweller 6
Superchunk, It’s True - 3
Old 97’s - 2
Voodoo Machine, The Mynabirds, Satchel Grande - 1

So, the headliners take it! Sweet! Check back soon, we’ll be giving away more tickets and covering the 30 Days to MAHA Showcase…and once again, congrats to Michelle, give her a high five over Facebook or something.
