Listener in Concert
The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is proud to announce the return of music to the bemisUNDERGROUND with a special performance by Listener on June 16, 2011. Doors open at 7:00 pm and the show begins at 8:00 pm in the bemisUNDERGROUND, 12th & Leavenworth, Omaha NE. The cover will be $5 for Bemis Center members and $7 for non-members. Alcohol will be served.
For the past nine years, vocalist Dan Smith has been the driving creative force behind Listener, backed up by a rotating cast of musicians. During that time, the band – currently Smith and guitarist/drummer Christin Nelson – have been touring the world, challenging audiences with a unique musical style Smith calls “Talk Music.”
Smith throws his staccato cadence – somewhere between slam and lyrical poetry – against the wall of Nelson’s contemplative garage rock. Spoken instead of sung, Listener’s songs often revolve around the depressed, lost and ignored. The result is wholly unique.
Over the past decade, Listener has toured extensively all over the world, building momentum in small and large cities alike. They have played in private homes, coffee shops, art galleries, empty warehouses, large venues, and more.
Smith and Nelson have release two albums together – 2010’s Wooden Heart and 2009’s Return to Stuggleville. They describes themselves as “both flightless and disease free,” and are based between Atlanta, GA and Las Vegas, NV.
ABOUT THE bemisUNDERGROUND – The Bemis Underground is an integral part of the arts community in Omaha. The space provides regional artists to exhibition opportunities and is dedicated to creating a stronger community through ongoing dialogue about the arts.
