Set in rural 1960’s Ireland, the play tells the story of how those transition years in Irish culture were affecting women’s lives. Big Maggie Poplin is the fierce, uncompromising matriarch at the heart of this drama. Most of the characters are driven by desire for money, land and sex. Maggie has just buried her hard-drinking, womanizing husband. Feeling liberated at last, she takes the opportunity to seize control of the family farm and business to the outrage of her self-serving adult children. The show is fast paced, thought-provoking and funny.
“Big Maggie” also marks the start of our 20th Anniversary season. We have a lot to celebrate and want to share with our audience on opening night Sept. 6th, Fri. night, Sept. 7th and Sat. night, Sept. 8th. Our friends at Guinness have offered to treat everyone attending the play on those three nights to their newest brew, Guinness Black Lager.
