3rd Annual Omaha Zombie Walk
The Zombie Walk is back! The undead will walk again in 2010, and they promise to turn out in record numbers:
2008: 271 Zombies!
2009: 390 Zombies!
2010: ???????????
The zombie walk is a public happening in which participants, dressed in their finest zombie gear, limp and gnaw their way around town. Participants should remain in character, shuffling as they walk, and only communicate through a series of grunts, groans, slurs, moans, and calls from brains. Zombie walks are also known as a zombie mobs, zombie marches, zombie hordes, zombie lurches, zombie shuffles or zombie pub crawls.
The Omaha Zombie Walk does have a few rules:
- When "attacking" people, don’t use any blood that will stain the sidewalk
- Avoid jaywalking
- Keep language clean and avoid profanities (you should be grunting and groaning anyways!)
- Don’t attack anyone who isn’t a designated victim
- Don’t enter any businesses
- Respect all property
For more information on the Zombie Walk, included a history and information about how to designate yourself a victim, visit the Zombie Walk MySpace page.
A map of the route is available here.

The make-up will be $3 to cover expenses. As for your second question, I don’t think the organizers track “humans,” only “zombies,” and the total number of participants in this year’s walk won’t be known until the event actually happens on Saturday the 23rd.

Pretty impressive, huh? Someone said Denver had a turnout of 6,000 for their Zombie Walk. Next year Denver, we’re coming for you!
