Variety is the Spice of Life
“Variety is the Spice of Life” features new work from four artists
Four artists will show new works in “Variety is the Spice of Life” Oct. 30 to Nov. 18, 2012 at the Artists’ Cooperative Gallery, 405 S. 11th St. in Omaha. Joan Fetter, Agneta Gaines, Judy Greff and Dottie Seymour will host a First Friday opening reception 6 p.m. to 9 p.m., Nov. 2, 2012 featuring music by Michael Murphy.
Painter Joan Fetter continues to work with color and realism to further the meaning of her work and to add variety to her pieces.
In this show Judy Greff embodies variety. She has made “sculptures, paintings, ‘tough love’ tins and assemblages created with found and profound objects,” she says. “Variety is the spice of my life!”
Weaver Agneta Gaines says she is always looking for unusual ways of treating her woven surfaces, such as adding reeds and other botanical material. She also has created pieces that incorporate metal rods and has experimented with manipulating woven fibers and felted materials.
Dottie Seymour points to a quote from Julia Cameron’s book Vein of Gold: Journey to Your Creative Heart: “The creative mind doesn’t require logical transitions from one thought to another. It skips, jumps, doubles back, circles and dives from one idea to the next.” Seymour says that statement describes her to a T. “I’ve experimented and played more this year, which has been good for my soul and creative spirit,” she says. “Frustrations, failures, successes, happy accidents have all been part of the process.”
