Rodrigo y Gabriela are coming to the Holland Performing Arts Center, presented by Exceptional Artists.
Rodrigo y Gabriela are an acclaimed Mexican guitar duo. They pair specialize in a fast, rhythmic style inspired as much by traditional flamenco guitar as by today’s popular music. Rodrigo Sánchez, the duo’s lead guitarist, met Gabriela Quintero, the rhythm guitarist, in Mexico City. Rodrigo was growing tired of Mexico’s music scene, so the pair quit "Tierra Ácida," the speed metal band they were playing in, and moved to Dublin, which they heard was receptive to traveling musicians. After receiving their big break from star Damien Rice, they have gone on to considerable fame, both in Europe and domestically.
In addition to releasing six albums (Foc, re-Foc, Live in Manchester and Dublin, Rodrigo y Gabriela, Live in Japan, and 11:11), the pair have gained a strong following from their energetic live shows and unusual, genre blending style. Recent performances on “The Tonight Show with Jay Leno,” “Lopez Tonight,” “Late Show with David Letterman,” and “The Today Show” have solidified their fame in the US.
