There will be a showing of the controversial documentary on education, “Waiting for Superman”. A panel discussion will take place after the viewing.
This event is sponsored by Nebraskans for School Choice.
Nebraska has no charter school law, voucher or tax credit progra…ms. That is not to say that our children could not benefit from having them.
Half of our local inner city students are not proficient in math and reading according to test results on the most recent California Achievement Test scores.
Nearly 1,000 students per year drop out of high school from the Learning Community Sub Council #2 high schools (Benson, North & Central). Almost 30% of OPS’s students did not graduate last year.
There is blame thrown in numerous directions: some blame the schools, some blame the parents, others blame poverty levels. Yet, what is being done about this growing problem?
Maybe it’s time to stop waiting for Superman and do something about it here in Nebraska.
Citizens are invited on January 26th to Love’s Jazz & Arts Center at 2510 North 24th Street to view this documentary in celebration of National School Choice Week.
A panel discussion will take place afterward.
