ISConnects: Michael Jones McKean + Natalie Miebach
The Bemis Center for Contemporary Arts is partnering with KANEKO and the International Sculpture Center to bring an exciting event series to Omaha for the first time.
The event, called ISConnects: Michael Jones McKean + Natalie Miebach, will feature two former Bemis Center residents whose practices push the boundaries of traditional sculpture.
Michael Jones McKean’s current exhibition at the Bemis Center is The Rainbow: Certain Principles of Light and Shapes Between Forms. The project creates a simple, but phenomenal visual event — a rainbow in the sky. This public artwork produces rainbows twice per day above the Bemis Center using captured rainwater.
Nathalie Miebach translates scientific data related to meteorology, ecology and oceanography into woven sculptures and musical scores. Central to this work is her desire to explore the role visual and musical aesthetics play in the translation and understanding of complex scientific systems, such as weather.
This event is Omaha’s first ISConnects, a collaborative effort between the Washington DC-based International Sculpture Center and prominent arts organizations around the world. Launched in 2011, ISConnects brings together artists, journalists, academics and arts administrators to explore new perspectives on sculpture through lively, accessible and insightful discourse.
